Reaching Aliyar Dam
Aliyar Dam is located in the Anamalai Hills of the Western Ghats. It is about 65 kilometres from Coimbatore in Valparai Mainroad. From Pollachi is about 25kms. and From Valparai is about 40 Kms.
The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is highly diverse in its topography, altitude, rainfall, climate and
temperature. Therefore, it naturally supports a wide variety of flora and fauna including
several rare, endemic and endangered species of plants and animals. Diversity of landscape
and its components enchants one and all alike be he a tourist, a trekker, an anthropologist,
a wildlifer or a naturalist.
Valparai, Topslip and Parambikulam
Topslip to Valparai is about 65 Kms. (via Aliyar Dam) The two small Places with in the (958 km2)
Anamalai Tiger Reserve (formerly Indira Gandhi National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary) lies in the
Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu. at the southern part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in the
Anamalai Hills. Separated from the Nilgiri Hills by the Palghat Gap on the north, the Park is
contiguous to the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) to its west and to the Eravikulam National
Park (Kerala) and Chinnar Wild life santuary.
Aliyar Dam
Aliyar Dam receives water from Upper Aliyar Reservoir of Valparai through the hydroelectric power station in Navamali and the Parambikulam reservoir through a contour canal. Aliyar dam, built as a part of Parambikulam aliyar project (PAP), retains a large reservoir. The dam is around 2 kilometers in length.
Parambikulam Aliyar project consists of a series of dams Aliyar, Parambikulam, Thunakadavu Dam, Peruvaripallam Dam, Sholayar Dam, Upper Nirar Dam, Lower Nirar Dam and Thirumoorthy Dam are interconnected by tunnels and canals forirrigation and power generation. The scheme is an outstanding example of engineering skill.
Aliyar Aquarium

Aliyar Dam Aqurium is maintained by th Tamilnadu Fisheries Department. Here major all variety colorfull fishes are avilable.

Monkey Falls is located few Kms away from the Aliyar dam next to Arutperunjothi Nagar in Valparai Main Road, Next to forest Department Checkpost. Entry fee Rs.15/head.
